What Laura Stands For

Working in Coalition

San Franciscans need to work together to accomplish goals that are important to all of us: civil rights, affordable housing, expanded public transportation, good public schools and clean streets and neighborhoods. We need to put aside the differences that polarize us and find areas of compromise in order to accomplish our goals.

I also believe we must work in coalition to bring more San Franciscans into the Democratic party, as well as working to elect a Democratic President and expand our seats in Congress.

I have worked for many years to build coalitions. I am very proud of that work. Coalition work is the best way to accomplish goals, as well as to bring new people into the Democratic party.

Building the Democratic Party

I will continue my work to register democratic voters; encourage inspirational and hard-working leaders to run for office; organize volunteers before elections to help educate the electorate about democratic endorsements; and then work on election day to turn-out democratic voters. I will also fundraise to support the San Francisco Democratic party infrastructure; send out literature and mailings to educate voters about candidates and issues; and help register and turn-out voters.

I am energized and passionate about working to build the Democratic Party, to ensure that we continue the fight for civil rights and work to expand our seats in Congress and take back the White House.

Housing and Transportation, Together

San Francisco needs more affordable and middle-income housing on or near transportation corridors, as well as an expanded rapid transit system to provide real incentives for people to use public transportation and decrease their reliance on vehicles.

I am supportive of increasing housing opportunities for San Franciscans of all income levels, as well as ensuring more affordable housing for both renters and buyers. Reform is needed in this area, particularly for middle-income residents.

I support a range of housing types that serve the diverse needs of San Francisco’s residents, as well as preserving the city’s existing housing stock and boosting the amount of new housing that is produced each year.

I also support well-designed housing to preserve and enhance neighborhood livability and character and create/enhance pedestrian and transit-friendly neighborhoods.

Education

San Francisco needs to improve the academic performance of our local public schools. Our economy is dependant upon a strong school system.

An economically competitive city needs a strong public school system to educate its children and develop the skills of its future workforce. We can improve the quality of public education by strengthening the bond between local schools, government and the business community. Also, finding ways to increase revenues at the state level will help our education system.

Renewable Power

This is an exciting time for renewable power in San Francisco. I care deeply about expanding renewable power, particularly solar, wind, hydropower and geothermal.

I support a solar incentive plan to decrease the cost of solar installations on residential and commercial buildings.

I support green communities at new redevelopment projects, such as Hunters Point and Treasure Island.

I support implementing and promoting a responsible community choice aggregation plan that can bring local control, cleaner energy and lower, more stable electric rates for residents and businesses.

And I support the study of geothermal energy in San Francisco’s vast watershed lands.
